NYSFAAA Support

2008-2009 NYSFAAA Donation/Development Campaign
-- 2008-09 Support Form --

On behalf of the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association, thank you for your support of NYSFAAA throughout the years.  We are all aware that many things have changed in our industry since the last NYSFAAA Fundraising Campaign.  Again, this year’s campaign has been carefully constructed to avoid any potential issues with “codes of conduct”, and to prevent the inclusion of NYSFAAA in the definition of “lending institution” in the SLATE Act.  Individuals and corporations (including lenders) can make donations to NYSFAAA without fear of legal issues.

NYSFAAA will continue to accept both corporate and individual sponsorship for our many activities, purposes, functions and initiatives that are not “related to education lending activities”. Toward that end, we have simplified the donation process to include only three broad categories:

Training, Outreach, and Scholarship

These have been the three main purposes of NYSFAAA since its inception, and clearly none of these are related in any way to “educational lending activities”.  Each of these three purposes contributes directly or indirectly to student and family education, information, and access to the college financing process in New York State.

Donors will be recognized as “corporate donors” or “individual donors” as you indicate on the form at the appropriate events throughout the fiscal year.  Donors wishing to remain anonymous should notify the Chair of the NYSFAAA Development Committee for exclusion from any such donor recognition.  Donors will receive no benefit, preferential treatment, or advertising space as quid pro quo for donations; but you’ll be helping students and families across the State to access an affordable college education. You will be acknowledged at training and outreach events throughout the year if you choose to sponsor those activities.

  1. Training
Donations in this area will help to support our various training activities and initiatives for NYSFAAA members and other personnel at institutions of higher education.  NYSFAAA’s training efforts have contributed in no small way to the professional development the entire financial aid community in New York, which is regarded as among the very best in the country in efficiency, technology, accuracy, and (most importantly), service to students and families. Donations to Training will help NYSFAAA continue to offer our myriad of training opportunities, including:
    • Novice Training
    • Intermediate Training
    • Tax Return Workshop Series
    • Support Staff Workshop
    • Joint Training with other Professional Associations
    • Regional Trainings, including:  Guest speakers at regional meetings, new initiatives like the Admissions Counselor Training in Region 1, and combined regional efforts such as the Annual Tri-Regional Training.

  2. Outreach
Donations in this area will help to support our various activities in direct outreach to students, families, high school personnel, and other third-parties involved in providing good financial counsel to college-bound students. These activities are designed to inform and educate students and families about college affordability and the application processes, either through direct interaction with students/families or through training and support for high school personnel. This category includes early awareness and high school outreach activities, such as:

    • High School Counselor Workshops
    • College Goal Sunday
    • Gear-Up
    • Financial Aid Wall Chart
    • NYSFAAA Informational and Early Awareness Publications/Collateral.
    • “Public” areas of the NYSFAAA Website.

  3. Scholarship
Donations in this area support the growth and expansion of the NYSFAAA Scholarship Endowed Fund. NYSFAAA has grown and maintained a substantial scholarship program which currently awards five scholarships annually valued at $2,000 each.  Student recipients are currently attending college in the state of New York and have documented exceptional circumstances and significant financial need.

The NYSFAAA donation process is easy, convenient and on-line. The “2008-09 NYSFAAA SUPPORT FORM” is now available. Once you complete the on-line form for 2008-09, please print off the invoice and mail along with your check. Due to cost considerations, donations may not be made via credit card.

Please note that this online form does not include NYSFAAA membership dues. You must apply for your membership dues separately at www.nysfaaa.org/docs/forms/memApp.html.

Donations are requested by September 15, 2008 or immediately after an invoice is generated (whichever is later). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 585-319-9140 or anneb@nslp.org.  Thank you, again, for your continued support of NYSFAAA.

Anne Barton
NYSFAAA Development Chairperson
